Coding Manuals Needed for This Course
Medical coding requires access to the official coding manuals. Here’s what students will use throughout the Learn Medical Coding in 8 Weeks course and during CPC or CCS P exam preparation.
Students will use several official coding manuals throughout the Learn Medical Coding in 8 Weeks course. The ICD‑10‑CM and HCPCS Level II manuals are provided as free PDF downloads, and these are fully sufficient for learning diagnosis and supply coding during the program. However, because the CPT code set is published exclusively by the American Medical Association (AMA), students must purchase the CPT Professional Edition separately. This is the required version for the course and the version used on certification exams.
During instruction, we reference the AAPC ICD-10-CM Expert Manual, the AAPC HCPCS Level II Manual, and the AMA CPT Professional E‑Book. Students may choose these versions for consistency, but they are not required. Some students prefer to purchase their manuals as a bundle, which can be more cost‑effective. However, bundles should only be purchased if the student plans to take their certification exam within the same calendar year, since coding manuals are updated annually and certification exams always use the current year’s editions. Contact us at 210-756-4166 or via LiveChat for more information on the coding manuals.
