Take a journey with Virtual Nurse Practitioner Sara, of Michaels Family Medical Clinic.  NP Sara is going to provide you with the ICD-10-CM codes you need to learn as a Family Medicine coder. The course includes Checkpoint and End of Chapter exercises. Students will also have the opportunity to visualize certain conditions that are depicted in the Video Coding exercises.  At the end of the course, you will take a multiple-choice final assessment.  Upon completion of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. This course is the first of a 3-part series. In addition to ICD-10-CM, you also need to learn how to code services and procedures, which are found in the CPT and HCPCS manuals. In the final part of the series, students will learn how to code from the Progress notes. Who is this course for?

This course is designed for anyone interested in starting a career as a medical coder. It’s also for experienced medical coders, who are interested in working in a Family Medicine setting.

Prerequisites

We strongly recommend knowledge of Medical Terminology. If you have not taken a Medical Terminology course, then you may use a medical dictionary, search engine for terms, or a Medical Terminology book, such as Ann Ehrlich’s “Medical Terminology for Health Professions”.  Used Medical Terminology books are also available for purchase online and may be used with this course.
